How do I add the bot to a channel?

Tap "Add to a channel": Telegram shows its own channel picker, where you can also create a new channel. The bot only needs the "Invite users" admin right. The channel then appears in LinkScale on its own, no chat ID to copy.

Can it count joins from my own invite links?

It counts joins for the invite links the bot creates, which is why every tracked link is created through LinkScale. Joins through any other link are grouped separately.
