TikTok bio ideas: 40 examples that fit in 80 characters (2026)

TikTok bio ideas work when they do three things in 80 characters: say what you post, give one reason to follow, and point at the link under the bio. That is the whole formula. Below are 40 bios that follow it, sorted by type, plus the rules TikTok imposes on the field and the one thing a bio cannot do on its own, which is make the link clickable.

The TikTok bio is 80 characters long, shorter than a tweet used to be. Most of the ideas circulating online do not fit, or fit and say nothing. Every example below has been counted.

What to put in a TikTok bio: the three-line formula

Line 1: what you post, in plain words

Not a vibe, not a title. What someone will see if they follow. "Daily 60-second recipes" beats "Food lover" because a stranger can act on the first and not the second. On TikTok, where profiles are visited in the two seconds after a video, the first line has to be readable without thinking.

Line 2: one reason to follow, or one proof

A number, a niche, a promise. "300 recipes, no oven" or "For renters with tiny kitchens". This is the line most bios skip, and it is the one that turns a viewer into a follower. If you have a real figure, use it. If you do not, name the audience.

The clickable link sits under the bio with no label of its own. Nothing tells the visitor why to tap it. The last line of the bio is that label. "Free meal plan below" or "Shop the pans I use" does the pointing in five words. In our own A/B testing at LinkScale, published in September 2026 on Instagram bios, bios that ended without a line pointing at the link converted about 28% worse than the same bios with one. The mechanism is identical on TikTok: same field, same link under it, same two-second decision.

Three lines, 80 characters, done. Everything below is variations on this.

Character counts include spaces and emojis. Each emoji counts as two characters on most devices, so one is usually the budget.

The short ones are not lazy. On a profile people reach from a viral video, a five-word bio that points at the link often outperforms a clever one, because the video already did the introduction. The same goes for visitors who find you through a repost: how reposting on TikTok works explains who actually sees one.

TikTok bio character limit, and what else fits on the profile

The bio is one field among several, and each has its own rule. Knowing them saves the usual ten minutes of retyping.

FieldLimitClickableWhat to know
Bio80 charactersNoLine breaks work in the app, emojis count double
Name30 charactersNoSearchable, changeable once every 7 days
Username24 charactersNoYour URL, changeable once every 30 days
Website1 URLYesBusiness account, or 1,000 followers
Email1 addressYes (button)Business account only
Instagram / YouTube1 eachYes (icon)Any account

Two consequences. The Name field is 30 characters you are probably wasting: it shows in bold above the bio and it is matched in search, so "Ana | Tiny Kitchen Recipes" does more work than "Ana". And the Website field is the only clickable link, which is why every bio above ends with a line pointing at it. TikTok documents the profile fields and how to edit them in its Help CenterOpens in a new tab.

TikTok bio examples: the same bio, rewritten

A constructed example, built out of the two mistakes we see most.

Before (102 characters, cut off after "collabs")

✨🌸 Content creator & dreamer capturing life's beautiful moments 🌸✨ DM for collabs πŸ’Œ Link below πŸ‘‡

Twenty-two characters over the limit, so the pointer to the link is the part that gets cut. Six emojis, twelve characters gone. "Content creator" tells a stranger nothing.

After (70 characters)

Three lines, one emoji, a niche, an audience, a pointer. The reader knows what they get, who it is for, and why to tap.

What changed: the job title became a subject, the adjectives became an audience, five emojis left, and the line that sends people to the link is now the one they read last.

How to change your TikTok bio

Open your profile, tap Edit profile, tap Bio, type, tap Save. It is live immediately, on every device. There is no draft and no history, so copy the old one into a note first if you might want it back.

Line breaks that hold

Typing Return inside the Bio field works on current app versions. If a break collapses after saving, write the bio in your notes app with the breaks, copy the whole block, and paste it in. Remove trailing spaces at the end of each line, which is the usual reason a pasted break disappears.

If the bio will not save

Three causes cover almost every case. You are over 80 characters and the app is silently refusing. The bio contains a URL, an email or a phone number, which TikTok's Community GuidelinesOpens in a new tab treat as spam signals in the text field. Or the account has a recent strike and profile edits are throttled. Cut the text, remove the contact info, or wait a day.

Every bio above ends by pointing down. That only pays off if there is something clickable down there.

The bio text is never clickable

A URL typed into the bio shows as plain text. The visitor has to copy it by hand, and almost nobody does. Worse, TikTok reads it: a domain that would be blocked as a link carries the same consequences sitting in plain text. The only clickable link is the Website field, and getting it takes a Business account or 1,000 followers, which we cover in how to add a link to your TikTok bio.

The Website field takes a single URL. If you sell, teach and post on three platforms, that one link has to open a page holding all of them, on a domain you own, so that one report on a shared address does not take your link down with a thousand strangers. What "link in bio" means covers the mechanics, and the traps are in the most common bio link mistakes.

Measure the tap, not the view

TikTok shows profile views, and pays little for video views (we did the math on how much TikTok pays per view). It does not show who tapped your link, from which video, or what they did after. A tracked link does: taps by video, by hour, by country, and for creators selling on a platform, the revenue behind each one. That is the layer LinkScale adds under the bio, and it is the only way to know whether your third line is doing its job or just taking up characters.

If you are writing the same bio for Instagram, the field is 150 characters and the rules differ enough to matter: how to write an Instagram bio that gets the click.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters can a TikTok bio have?

80, including spaces, line breaks and emojis. Most emojis count as two characters. The Name field above the bio has its own 30-character limit and is searchable, so it is worth using for a keyword rather than repeating your username.

What should I put in my TikTok bio?

What you post, one reason to follow, and a line pointing at the link under the bio. Three lines, under 80 characters. Leave out your email, your other handles and anything a stranger cannot act on in two seconds.

Can you put a link in a TikTok bio?

Not in the bio text, which is never clickable. The clickable link lives in the Website field, available on Business accounts at zero followers and on Personal accounts past 1,000 followers. A URL typed into the bio is plain text and still gets read by TikTok's systems.

How do I make my TikTok bio aesthetic?

Lowercase, one emoji at most, short lines, and a consistent theme with your videos. The aesthetic bios that hold up are the ones that still say what the account posts. Decorative characters and fonts pasted from generators are not searchable and are read out one by one by screen readers.

Can I use emojis in my TikTok bio?

Yes, and one placed on purpose helps the eye find the line you want read. Beyond two they compete with your text and eat your 80 characters fast, since each one typically counts double.

How often can I change my TikTok bio?

As often as you want. The Name field is limited to one change every 7 days and the username to one every 30 days, but the bio itself has no cooldown. Rapid repeated edits on a new account can trigger a temporary throttle, so change it once and leave it.
